#219. Great Salt Lake, Utah, and Wahsatch Mountains. 22 x 46, oil on canvas. "Gilbert Munger 1880" lower left; "Great Salt Lake, Utah, and Wahsatch Mountains. by Gilbert Munger" reverse. The picture shows Salt Lake City with the Wasatch Mountains behind as viewed across the Great Salt Lake from Antelope Island. (See the discussion of the Wasatch paintings here for more details.) Bought by Edmond Rice on his honeymoon in London in 1880 from Munger for £80 while it was hanging on the first-line at the Royal Academy. Decended in the family until 2003, when it was bought by Karges Fine Art of Los Angeles and Carmel, which traded it to the Springville Museum of Art, UT, in 2004. This is a London studio painting of same scene as #58 and #74. Image from a scanned snapshot provided by the owner.
