#340. Boats on the Venetian Lagoon at Sunset.

  9 x 17, oil on beveled panel. "Gilbert Munger" lower right. Artist name plate on frame. The prospect is looking southwest over the Venetian Lagoon with the city skyline faintly visible in the distance. The loose style of this painting is very reminiscent of Munger's Venice scenes #13 and #174. The painting was purchased purchased in Europe in the 1890s by the current owner's Bronxville NY great grandparents, and has descended in the family ever since. Munger painted in Venice in the fall of 1886 and returned to Paris with about 50 works. Image from the owner's email.
